Recent news of Friends of the Hogar Rafael Ayau_______________________________________________________ Read the latest news from the Hogar here.... January 2012 News___________________________________________________ The Friends of the Hogar is accepting donations in memory of Adriana, who went to be with the Lord on January 27, 2011 at the age of 12. We hope to build the pool at the new orphanage building in her honor. We believe that doing so would help to relieve the grief of Reyna, her 14 year old sister and her other “brothers and sisters” at the Hogar. Help us honor Adriana, a beautiful girl who left us all too soon. When making a donation, note “in in honor of Adriana". Thank you! _________________________________________________________________________________________________________ In June of this year, the Señoritas of the Hogar were given the opportunity to learn photography through a series of lessons and outings that taught not only the skills needed to operate the girls’ Canon Rebel cameras, but how to use the Adobe Photoshop Lightroom software as well. The trip took the group throughout the rolling hills of the Guatemalan countryside, through postcard-perfect views reminiscent of the Swiss Alps, perfect for practicing photography. Each girl set up with a tripod and her camera, learning to take shots of the abundance of natural beauty that rural Guatemala provides. From before daybreak until after sunset you could hear the shutters clicking.
Of
course, nature was not the only thing the group learned to photograph. Through
day trips to small towns outside of Guatemala City, the girls also learned about
the art of photographing people, and daily life in their country. Day trips
consisted of wandering through towns, taking in the sights, smells, and sounds,
and capturing the essence of what Guatemala has to offer on film. The girls were
then given a tutorial on Adobe LightRoom, learning to edit and enhance their
pictures. Since the trip, the girls have had additional outings to create images of different subject matters. They continue to have additional seminars on LightRoom. Plans are under way to publish a calendar for 2012 with each month featuring a different artist. In addition, Madre Ines has authorized a program for several independent advisors to select images to be printed and hung around the orphanage.
